Team Policy Debate

The purpose of Team Policy Debate is to train Christian home school students in the skills of presentation, critical thinking, and research in an environment of honorable competition, to cultivate maturity, wisdom, grace, and poise, bringing glory to Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially reform its trade policy with one or more of the following nations: China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan.

Lincoln Douglas Debate

Lincoln Douglas Debate centers on a proposition of value, which concerns itself with what ought to be instead of what it is. A value is an ideal held by individuals, societies, governments, etc. Debaters are encouraged to develop argumentation based upon a values perspective.
Dual Resolutions as followed:

Resolved: In formal education liberal arts ought to be valued above practical skills.
Resolved: Developing countries ought to prioritize economic growth over
environmental protection.

Both Resolutions will be debated.

Prelim Rounds

All Round 1 pairings will debate one of the resolutions and Round 2 pairings will debate the other resolution as determined in Tab by coin flip.
Round 3 and 4 pairings will debate the resolution used in Round 1with each student debating Affirmative and Negative.
Round 5 and 6 pairings will debate the resolution used in Round 2 with each student debating Affirmative and Negative.

Outrounds

The student winning the coin toss has the option to choose either to debate Affirmative or Negative or to choose which resolution to debate.
If the student winning the coin toss chooses Aff/Neg, the other student chooses the resolution.
If the student winning the coin toss chooses the resolution, the other student chooses Aff/Neg.
If sides are already locked, the student winning the coin toss will chose the resolution.

Parliamentary Debate

The Purpose of Parliamentary Debate is to train students to employ advanced debate and speaking skills informed by an accumulation of general and specific knowledge on a broad range of topics. The goal is to prepare students to deal with real world advocacy and argumentation in a manner that exhibits maturity, wisdom, grace and poise, bringing glory to Our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Parliamentary Debate resolutions are announced / released prior to the beginning of each round.

LD and TP Seeding and Ranking at NITOC

  1. Debate pairings will be random for round one, and power matched for rounds two through six.
  2. State protect has been removed.
  3. Club protect will be in effect for preliminary rounds one through four.
  4. When the double elimination portion of out-rounds is completed (before semi-finals), the final four teams will be re-ranked based on double elimination result standings. At this point, single elimination will take effect.

Parliamentary Debate seeding and ranking at NITOC:

  1. Debate pairings will be random for round one, and power matched for rounds two through six.

  3. Club protect will be in effect for preliminary rounds one through four.
  4. Parli Outrounds will all be traditional single elimination.
